John M. McCabe Elected President of State Nonprofit

The Law Offices of John M. McCabe, P.A., is pleased to announce that attorney John M. McCabe has been elected president of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), our state's nonprofit, nonpartisan association for trial lawyers.

Members of the NCAJ are courtroom advocates who work together to fight for fair laws and equal justice. The organization believes that every individual has the right to justice, and that strong advocacy is essential to level the playing field. The NCAJ is the third largest trial lawyers' association in the nation and has served North Carolina for 50 years.

For example, the NCAJ recently submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in a case that expanded the reach of habeas corpus relief for North Carolina prisoners. An NCAJ member had initially filed a habeas petition on behalf of an incarcerated man who sought early release due to his high risk of fatality from the coronavirus. Although the Court of Appeals denied the man's petition, it made clear that incarcerated people in North Carolina have the right to seek habeas corpus relief even in cases where their imprisonment is lawful.

Attorney John M. McCabe was born, raised and educated in North Carolina and practices in both North Carolina and federal courts. He focuses his practice on helping people injured by traffic crashes, defective products, medical negligence, workplace incidents and other negligent or wrongful acts. He is routinely sought out by the media for commentary on these issues and cases that arise. A frequent speaker and legal educator, he has published many articles and presented many continuing legal education and other courses.

Mr. McCabe has been widely recognized by his peers and rating agencies as a top lawyer. For example, he has been selected to the North Carolina Super Lawyers list every year since 2011, the Best Lawyers in America list every year since 2010, and the Best Law Firms in the United States according to U.S. News and World Report. He is AV rated (exceptional legal ability and highest level of ethics) by Martindale Hubbell and rated 10/10 (superb) by AVVO.

In his free time, Mr. McCabe is involved in coaching and sponsoring youth basketball teams, religious activities for which he has been officially honored, and volunteering with the North Carolina Lawyers' Assistance Program.
